At Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach, our commitment to upholding the highest environmental and social sustainability standards drives our pursuit of Green certification in 2023. Our primary sustainability efforts consist of a proactive Sustainability Committee conducting monthly reviews, phasing out single-use plastics, and promoting local suppliers. We proactively participate in local community endeavours and place a strong emphasis on recycling, adopting responsible food practices, and as of 2022, we have successfully eliminated single-use plastics in all guest-facing public spaces. This accomplishment reflects our unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable hospitality. To minimize our energy consumption, we employ energy-efficient systems and water conservation strategies, such as low-flow faucets and towel and linen reuse programs. We recognize the crucial role of employee education and involvement in executing and overseeing our sustainability measures. We inform our guests about our eco-friendly endeavours and invite them to adopt sustainable habits during their stay. We take pride in leading the way in sustainable hospitality through environmentally-aware practices that comply with Accor and DTCM standards. Our concrete actions to combat plastic pollution and promote sustainability are ongoing, and we constantly seek to improve our green initiatives. Our dedication to offering luxury and comfort while preserving our planet’s health drives our collective efforts toward a greener future.
Below are the detailed sustainable actions that we are currently undertaking:
GREEN KEY CERTIFICATION
Sofitel Dubai Jumeirah Beach is certified with Green Key.
Green Key is an international eco-label awarded to hospitality facilities that commit to sustainable business practices.
SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE
Our active Sustainability Committee is entrusted with enhancing the hotel’s sustainable practices by conducting monthly audits and pinpointing areas for improvement. Routine sustainability audits are performed to track our progress towards eco-friendly objectives and to discover new opportunities for strengthening our sustainability efforts.
SINGLE-USE PLASTICS ELIMINATION
In 2022, Sofitel JBR successfully removed all single-use plastics from guest rooms and public areas. We introduced reusable amenities, switched to non-woven reusable cotton laundry bags, and eliminated various disposable items, such as trash bin liners, stirrers, and straws. Additionally, we provide paperless check-in and guests receive eco-friendly room keys. All guest rooms and suites have refillable Lanvin amenities. We have also replaced single-use plastic water bottles with glass bottles and eco-friendly food takeaway or minibar containers.
EMPOWERING LOCAL SUPPLIERS
We prioritize empowering local suppliers and, wherever feasible, procuring sustainable products and services from local sources.
SUPPORTING LOCAL COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
We collaborate with local organizations to promote environmental projects and conservation efforts, thereby contributing to the welfare of the neighbouring community and environment.
RECYCLING
Our recycling program covers paper, cardboard, food, glass, and mixed materials. For guests, we also have a linen program to encourage less frequent sheet changing and a towel program to promote reuse. We have also implemented Orbisk a food waste measuring unit to reduce food waste.
SUSTAINABLE FOOD PRACTICES
We offer locally sourced, organic, and plant-based food options while minimizing food waste. For instance, the fish we serve in our restaurant is locally sourced and sustainably certified. Our food waste reduction program is also in place.
ENERGY CONSERVATION
We have 100% LED lighting in the hotel and have also implemented an energy-efficient system for lighting and room air conditioning called GRMS for all our guest rooms. Water-saving measures include low-flow faucets, showerheads, and toilets as well as a towel and linen reuse program.
STAFF TRAINING AND AWARENESS
We educate our employees on sustainable practices and engage them in implementing and monitoring these initiatives. All staff will get trained on ACCOR and DTCM sustainable requirement
GUEST ENGAGEMENT
We inform guests about our sustainability efforts, provide details on local eco-tourism opportunities, and encourage guest participation in sustainable practices during their stay.
NATURAL CLEANING PRODUCTS
Our housekeeping team uses certified eco-friendly, non-toxic cleaning products to minimize chemical waste and mitigate environmental damage.
